Take your families on a zoo safari using a Jewish value and smartphone cameras! This program brings families together for some animal/zoo songs, some quick learning about the Jewish value of hesed (kindness) and then a walk through the zoo in small groups to find examples as they walked through the zoo. They emailed photos of the hesed examples (animals to animals, people to animals, animals to people) back to a central person who put everything together into a slide show for their return and more singing.
You’ll be able to download the instructions for parents. There is a page of stickers (which need to be reformatted for your own use) that were designed for immediate gratification of the children – if they saw a matching animal, they could put the stickers on the back of the instructions page. Note that the stickers were of animals that we knew were at the “closer end” of the Cleveland Zoo; the children would probably see at least a few of these as they walked with parents.
Originally developed for families with children age 5 and younger, but can be adapted to any age.
